Review of Sohum Spa in Thane Korum Mall

Sohum Spa has a branch in Korum Mall, Thane. I happened to try this out for the first time, mind you this is my first Spa experience in India.

I will quickly review it for you and conclude the review with my verdict: Pukka or Pakao

First the warning, since it is located in a Mall, it has no shower or steam facility. So you cannot cleanse yourself with a hot shower after a good "oily" Swedish Massage. The masseuse wipes you with ample warm towels after the massage.

The Spa has female crew all north eastern ladies, I assume from the looks. I may be wrong, lets ignore this for now.

When you arrive at the reception, you will be greeted with a cup of green tea and pair of slippers. You have to fill a form on which you can highlight your areas of concern like Neck, shoulders or back and whether you want a strong or medium pressure during massage.

When its time for your turn, the manager will guide you to your room and introduce you with the masseuse, in my case her name was Poorni. She wasn't talkative, answered to my queries in one word. She showed me the massage room and advised to change and left the room. On the massage table lied a big white paper underwear and a towel. The underwear covers up your prized jewels very well. After I was ready I knocked the door to let her know, and she entered.

With a low gaze, respecting my privacy she told me to hand her the towel and lay on my back on the massage table. She covered my entire body with that towel and started working on my head. She would only uncover the part she works on at a time keeping rest of your body covered under the towel. The Swedish Massage involves long strokes with oil. She did work on my problem areas well, I may say too well to my liking. I still have slight pain due to the excessive pressure she applied behind my neck. After finishing the rather quick 60 Min Massage Session, she wiped me up pretty well with hot towels.

Conclusion: I was neither impressed nor disappointed. It was an OK experience and am being a tad harsh on them and term them PAKAO. It cost me INR 2247 including taxes for the Swedish Massage.

At the end of the massage I was served a second cup of Green Tea. The lack of shower is a let off.
